Winter’s a Good Time to Stock Up

We often associate power outages with hurricanes. But as we just saw on the East Coast (and last winter, too), snow storms can wreak havoc on the power lines and knock out electricity. Heavy snow can also render the roads impassable, preventing you from getting to the grocery store. That’s where Vegan Unplugged can help. With a butane stove and a well-stocked pantry, you won’t need to trek out for groceries or live on peanut butter crackers until the power comes back on. The quick and easy pantry recipes in Vegan Unplugged can help you eat well during most any situation.

  1. Whoa! You got way more snow than we did up in the "Far North"!

  2. How many butane fuel canisters would you recommend having on hand for use with a portable gas stove? Each can lasts 2-8 hours.

  3. Bryanna, the weather seems to be crazy everywhere!

Allie, We like keeping a case of 12 butane canisters on hand, not because we need that many, it's just more economical to buy a case and it doesn't take up much room and it's good for peace of mind. We're actually still working on the same case we bought a few years ago (the fuel does last a good long time). If you don't want to buy a whole case, I'd say keep about 3 cans on hand -- the recipes in Vegan Unplugged don't use much fuel because they take less than 15 minutes to prepare.
